Have you been asked the question “What is Twitter?” or “Why would I join Twitter?”

Several people have said it to me, including grannymar.

So here’s your answer in a nice video format - Twitter in Plain English:

Just read an interesting article on Wired.com. Apparently one of Hillary Clinton’s latest campaign ads uses a clip of Barack Obama that has been darkened to make his skin look blacker.

Check it out for yourself in the videos below:

Wired even took a screenshot from each vid and placed them side by side to make it easier:

Is it just me, or does his face appear to be shorter and wider as well? Not being racist here, but the darker the skin colour, usually the rounder the face shape. Obama has quite an elongated face in all the previous pics I’ve seen, but here I can see a definite difference in face shape on the image on the right.

Band Aid

23 years since the original was released, I must have heard this song hundreds of times. I don’t ever recall seeing the original video however, which I came across today. It’s fun to watch and see who looks the most bored while recording this, and to see Bono trying to push Sting out of the way a little to get closer to the microphone… The fashions and hairstyles seem so strange these days!

Live Aid
happened in July of 2005, and the London portion of the gig closed with a live version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, preceded by Bob Geldolf announcing: “Thank you so much, it’s been a very great day for everybody. I think you know the next song. It may be a bit of a cock-up, but if you’re going to cock it up, you may as well do it with 2 billion people watching you. So let’s cock it up together!”

Band Aid II - 1989

A second version was released for Christmas 1989, which topped the UK chart for three weeks over Christmas.

Band Aid 20 - 2004

2004 marked the 20th anniversary of the original release and an updated version was released. Bono, Paul McCartney and George Michael were the only artists from the original Band Aid who had been asked back to lend their voices to Band Aid 20. There was a reported dispute over the line ‘Tonight thank God it’s them, instead of you’, which Bono sang on the original version. Justin Hawkins, of The Darkness, laid down a version of the line, but Bono insisted on re-recording his version, which was eventually used on the record.

Although he wasn’t invited, Blur’s frontman and songwriter Damon Albarn, wanted to assist. Bono advised him to make tea. ‘I asked him to make the tea,’ the U2 frontman explained, ‘I saw him on Thursday night. He said “I don’t know what to do.” I said, “Make tea.” He said “You really think so?” I said, “Yeah, make tea!”‘ Albarn quite happily responded, and thus served biscuits and tea for the participants, as well as appearing briefly in the video, at which Bono commented: ‘Good on him. I always knew that boy would turn out good in the end.’
