I’ve got internet!

…and a new house, but since I’ve been almost totally offline for 2 weeks, the getting of internet seems more important than the new house at the moment – totally sad?? It’s been a tough couple of weeks, lugging boxes around, packing, unpacking, putting together all the furniture (was there anything we bought that wasn’t flatpack?!?), [...]

Six Degrees of Wikipedia

Via Slashdot. Stephen Dolan, a student from Trinity College has calculated the “Six Degrees of Wikipedia”. Based on the popular US college game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” – from Wikipedia: The trivia game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is based on a variation of the concept of the small world phenomenon and states that any actor [...]

Why Twitter?

Yesterday I began to receive text messages from a number I didn’t recognise, from a person called “Jay”. These messages were full of descriptions of what Jay wanted to do to me – and they were disgusting! Normally when something like this happens, the first person that I would talk to is my husband, but [...]

My Dad

He still loved me – even when I borrowed his clothes He still loved me – even when I threw tantrums He still loved me – even when I couldn’t understand why his illness was affecting my childhood He still loved me – when I acted like a typical teenager and didn’t want to be seen with my [...]

Review of Zenato Lugana 2006

Zenato Lugana 2006 The Zenato Lugana 2006 was provided to me by Sublime Wines to review. It retails for 11.90 from Sublime wines and is made from the Trebbiano grape variety. Mary’s review from the website states: Made on the shores of Lake Garda this wine is as scenic as the area it comes from. It is [...]

Flying away…

Photo owned by James Cridland (cc) Work has me travelling for the next week, I’m off to Arizona to meet my new manager, so posting will probably be light. There are a few scheduled posts to complete the honeymoon series, but I doubt that I’ll get to write any more – too busy visiting friends [...]

Moo.com Sticker Book Offer

Another of my favourite websites is Moo.com, where I buy my mini-calling cards (or Moo cards as they are ubiquitously known). They are quite common within the tech community, but if you haven’t heard of them then here’s a description in Moo’s own words (and pictures): They offer a range of products: Greetings Cards, Postcards, Notecards, [...]

More about Blurb

I’ve written about Blurb.com in the past as one of my favourite sites. In their own words, Blurb is: a company and a community that believes passionately in the joy of books – reading them, making them, sharing them, and selling them. So we put our minds together, and developed a creative publishing service simple and [...]

Random Drinks, a review

Well Saturday night’s Random Drinks session (organised via Twitter and our blogs) turned out to be a roaring success, with 14 attendees (plus a couple of blow-ins from my IRL friends). As with any event that I’ve been to like this, it’s not easy walking into a large pub and trying to locate people that [...]

I mean, seriously…?

Spotted the photo below in a Spar shop window this morning, right beside the door. Which means that none of the staff on their way in spotted the glaring error (first thing that caught my attention). What annoys me here is that they managed to spell it correctly once and very badly the next time [...]

The Order of the Phoenix Park Twenty Major’s first book, based on the characters from his blog, pulls no punches from the first page. A twisted story about brainwashing the Irish populace into becoming acoustic loving drips, it’s up to Twenty, Jimmy the Bollix, Stinking Pete, Dirty Dave, Lucky Luciano and Ron the barman to save [...]

WWMD?

.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #000000; } .flickr-yourcomment { } .flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; } .flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; } WWMD?, originally uploaded by Red Mum. Several days after the blog awards and they are still appearing everywhere! If you were at the Irish Blog Awards and wondered where these came from or what they meant, then [...]

Just read an interesting article on Wired.com. Apparently one of Hillary Clinton’s latest campaign ads uses a clip of Barack Obama that has been darkened to make his skin look blacker. Check it out for yourself in the videos below: Campaign Ad TV Debate Wired even took a screenshot from each vid and placed them side by side to [...]

My Mum

Eamonn from Flowers Made Easy has a lovely competition running for bloggers today. Write a post about your mother, link back to him at http://blog.flowersmadeeasy.ie/eamonn/ and you’re in with the chance to win a lovely bunch of flowers delivered to you mum on Mother’s Day. So here’s my entry: ————————- Most people who read this post will [...]

So where have I been?

Yes, it’s another one of those posts by a blogger apologising for their absence… I’ve barely posted since November, and when I have, it’s been quick videos or cartoons that have interested me. So where have I been? What has stopped me from venting all over my blog as usual? Well, it took me a long [...]

Just show them this:

Asok the intern is dead!

Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert cartoons, killed off Asok the intern today! Nooooooooooo!

Blognation goes into meltdown…

Looks like Blognation may not be around much longer. There’s been rumours of non-payment of wages for months now, but finally Oliver Starr has had the guts to go public on all this. Oliver doesn’t think that his letter will stay up on Blognation for long, so he’s asking bloggers all round the [...]

Our Honeymoon, Part 2

Read Part 1 here. When you turn off the motorway to head up the mountains through Adenau, the road gets a little twisty – well really, a lot twisty! It seems to be an endless series of hairpin bends joined by long sloping curves. There’s no way to rush on this road – not unless [...]

George Sfarnas

George Sfarnas is one person that never fails to cheer me up, no matter how bad the day…

An excellent video of Steve Job’s commencement address to the graduating class from Stanford University 2005 – a lot of very valuable ‘out of the box’ business learnings.

More learner driver news…

After the government’s partial U-turn on the changes to the learner driver rules, I was interested to see an article on breakingnews.ie today. Apparently around 2,400 learner drivers were taken to court so far in 2007 for driving while unaccompanied, and around 4,400 for the same offence in 2006. With all the bullshit excuses being thrown up [...]

About effing time! The Road Safety Authority announced that new rules will come into force for learner drivers from midnight on Monday 29th October. These new rules include: The provisional licence is being replaced by a learner permit to emphasise the fact that the holder is learning to drive. Existing provisional licences will continue in force until [...]
