YouTubing your home town…

Via Scoble’s link blog today came a post from think:lab about YouTubing your home town or high school. So I dutifully headed over to YouTube and searched on ‘Ballyclare’ the name of my home town. In case you’ve ever wondered why I’m such a f****d up kid, the following two videos will explain a lot….

The Ballyclare May Fair is an annual event, pretty much the biggest thing to happen in the town each year. It stems from the historical ‘hiring and horse fair’ where boys and girls were brought to be sold along with horses and livestock. Each year the amusements, horses, stalls and events come to town and the May Fair queen is elected – I dare you to watch without grimacing:

The next vid seems to come from some local kids at the High School and shows off all the best aspects of Ballyclare that I remember from growing up – seems like nothing has changed:

But it’s not all as bad as I’m making out… The High School that I went to used to get involved in lots of things, two of the best known were the annual School Aid Romania trips to take goods to the Romanian orphanages and the school musicals and concerts led by the wonderful John Dallas who retired last year.

Now are you glad I raised you for export?

May Fair week this year shrunk to 5 days./ Tuesday to Sat. Most of it was wet and miserable.
